Named after the then Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, this image is looking across the ruin of the base commissary toward Officers' Row. Four companies of Buffalo Soldiers (Ninth U.S Cavalary, one of the Army's four segregated African American regiments) were the last to use the base. The base was abandoned in June, 1891.
